Almost 20 years ago, after working in many areas as a nurse (ICU, education, school, and supervision) and while raising 9 children and several foster children, I sought training in mental health. My husband and I experienced many challenges with our son with Asperger’s and with our daughter, formerly brought back from Romania and relinquished by her adopted parents due to her issues with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and serious attachment trauma. I obtained both an LSCSW and Psychiatric APRN. Since 2009, I have practiced in both medication management and psychotherapy with adolescents, adults, families, and couples.
I found my calling in treatment of trauma so have obtained training in Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral, Family Systems, Internal Family Systems, Solution Focused Brief, Dialectical Behavioral, Interpersonal, and Motivational Interviewing therapies. In addition, I’m certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing and in Alpha Stim M and am presently, working on certification in Havening.
In all diagnoses, studies support the use of both medications and therapy for most efficacy. In my experience, I’ve found that medications usually manage and stabilize but therapy heals. I am hoping to see more collaboration between medicine and psychotherapy so that we can offer the best treatment for our clients.
